Samu Omorodion is competing for Spain at the Paris Olympics
Chelsea are working on finalizing a deal to sign Spanish forward Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid recently agreed to an £81.5m deal to bring in Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, and selling Omorodion will help fund this transfer. Personal terms with Alvarez have been settled, with the transfer set to include an initial £64.4m fee plus up to £17.1m in add-ons.
In a separate move, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atletico for £33m.
Omorodion, 20, joined Atletico last summer, shortly after making his La Liga debut for Granada, where he scored against Atletico. He was loaned to Alaves, where he netted eight goals in 35 appearances last season. Currently, he is competing in the Olympics, where he has scored once during Spain's run to the final.
This summer, Chelsea have spent around £115m on new signings, including midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman, as well as goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian, and striker Marc Guiu. They have sold defenders Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall, forward Omari Hutchinson, and seen Hakim Ziyech, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva leave on free transfers. Gallagher is also set to join Atletico, and the future of Romelu Lukaku remains uncertain, with the Belgian striker having spent the last two years on loan in Italy.
