Following the news of Robert Griffin III's surprising departure from ESPN, his wife, Grete Griffin, conveyed a supportive message. Reacting to Griffin’s social media post of a clip from the movie “Friday,” where John Witherspoon’s character says, “How the hell you going to get fired on your day off?” Grete responded with, “Onto bigger and better things.”

Griffin, a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who played for Washington, Cleveland, and Baltimore during his NFL career, joined ESPN three years ago and still had two years left on his contract.
Sam Ponder, the host of "Sunday NFL Countdown," was also dismissed as part of the cost-cutting measures.
Griffin, who was earning over seven figures according to The Athletic, was removed from the network’s "Monday Night Football" pregame show after ESPN hired retired Eagles center Jason Kelce this past spring.
The 34-year-old expressed his gratitude in a lengthy message on X Thursday night, thanking those at ESPN who “helped me grow.”
“From the broadcast booth to the studio, and ESPECIALLY the people many of you never see behind the camera. They are the REAL MVPs and sacrifice so much time with their families to ensure people like me in front of the camera have the chance to shine,” Griffin shared with his 2.2 million followers.
The past three years have been filled with incredible experiences and moments that my family and I will cherish forever. What often gets overlooked is that none of this would have been possible without you, the FANS. So, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported my family during my playing career and my time in broadcasting. We deeply appreciate your support and will keep striving to seek and uphold the truth while telling athletes’ stories with integrity.
