Some of the internal information of the campaign camp of Donald Trump, the candidate of the Republican Party in the next presidential election of the United States, has been hacked. On Saturday, Trump's campaign alleged that the Iranian government was responsible for the hacking. Trump's past conflict with Iran has also been mentioned, though without direct evidence.
The news website Politico published a report on the matter before Trump's campaign made such accusations. It said they started receiving e-mails from an anonymous source last July. These e-mails contained inside and factual information about the activities of the Trump campaign.
Politico reported that the e-mail from an unidentified source even contained information about the 'potential vulnerability' of Trump's running mate or vice presidential candidate, JD Vance.
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Trump's campaign, said in a statement that the documents were obtained illegally from foreign powers hostile to the United States. Through this, steps were taken to interfere in the 2024 presidential election and create chaos in the US democratic process.
Reuters could not independently verify the identities and motives of those accused by the Trump campaign.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the UN representative did not immediately comment on this matter. However, the Iranian mission to the United Nations said that the US presidential election is an internal matter for the country. Iran never interferes in it.
The United States had tense bilateral relations with Iran under former President Trump. When Trump was president in 2020, Washington killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani. Trump also withdrew the United States from the nuclear deal with Iran.
"The Iranians know that if President Trump gets to the White House, he will end their reign of terror, just like he did during his first four years in office," said Steven Cheung.
Trump was attacked during the election campaign last July. There is no evidence of the suspected attacker's involvement with Iran. But CNN reported in a report last month that US intelligence has information that Iran is planning to attack Trump. However, Tehran denied the allegations.
