A yoga instructor injured in a mass stabbing in Southport has been readmitted to the hospital due to breathing difficulties. Leanne Lucas, who is thought to have helped organize a Taylor Swift-themed dance event where the knife attack occurred last month, has been facing health issues since the incident.
Ms. Lucas, who sustained stab wounds in the Southport attack, was discharged from the hospital last week but has now been readmitted. She is awaiting surgery to drain fluid from her lung, according to an update on a GoFundMe page.
“Leanne had just started her recovery process. Please keep her in your thoughts and continue to support her by sharing the page and donating whatever you can,” the message, posted on behalf of her friends and family, stated.
Ms. Lucas is believed to have tried to shield the children attending the Taylor Swift-themed event on July 29.
Her cousin, Chris Rimmer, called her a "hero" and described the aftermath of the tragedy as "devastating" and "ripping us all apart." “She doesn’t talk about it and I don’t think she can fully process it,” Mr. Rimmer previously told ITV News.
An inquest into the deaths of Alice, Bebe, and Elsie Dot was opened on August 7 and then adjourned. The coroner stated that it was "impossible to adequately articulate the devastating, lifelong effects" of the "truly tragic events."
Axel Rudakubana, 18, has been charged with the murder of three girls at the Hart Space in Southport, Merseyside. He also faces charges of attempting to murder Ms. Lucas, businessman John Hayes, and eight unnamed children, as well as possession of a curved kitchen knife.
