Zelensky admits to attacking Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has admitted for the first time that his army is attacking Russia's western Kursk region.

In a televised speech on Saturday night local time, Zelensky said the Ukrainian military was moving the war into "the territory of the aggressors."

According to Reuters, Ukrainian forces are attacking Russian territory. Yesterday, Saturday, the attack entered the fifth day. It is also known that Ukrainian troops have already advanced 10 kilometers into Russia.

Ukraine's attack on Russia was unexpected. They are evacuating a lot of people from both sides of the border for safety.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of Sunday, there were reports of explosions in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and Sumy region.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said air defense units were "working" and an airstrike alert was in place across the city. In a post on social media Telegram, he also warned civilians to stay in shelters.

According to the country's air force, an air strike alert is in place in and around Kiev and across eastern Ukraine.

In a speech on Saturday, President Zelensky thanked Ukraine's 'warriors'. He said he discussed the operation in Russia with his country's senior military commander, Alexander Sirsky.

"Ukraine has proven that it can indeed restore justice and ensure the necessary pressure on the aggressors," Zelenskiy added.

After Russia launched an all-out campaign in Ukraine in 2022, Ukrainian forces could never go so deep into Russia.

At least 13 people were injured in the Ukrainian attack in the Kursk region of Russia in the early hours of Sunday. The acting governor of the region, Alexey Smirnov, said that the condition of the two injured is serious.

According to Russian news agency TASS, Russia has already evacuated more than 76,000 people from the border area. Governor Smirnov also said he ordered officials to speed up the evacuation of people from border areas to ensure the safety of civilians.
