Locals in Narayanganj city have apprehended a juvenile employee of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram for attempting to steal money from the donation box and fleeing the scene. The attempted theft occurred on Friday at around 2:30 am.
Due to his age, the arrested employee's name has not been disclosed in line with journalistic ethics. Another teenage employee involved in the incident managed to escape.
Eyewitnesses reported that two employees of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram attempted to steal money from the donation box around 2:30 am on Friday. The employees hid when the ashram’s hostel students discovered the theft and pursued them. By around 6:00 am on Saturday, students and local residents responsible for the ashram’s security had apprehended one of the employees with the stolen money.
Shafiuddin, a local resident of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram area, told Prothom Alo, "We heard that the two employees even tried to strangle the Maharaj of the Ashram. The situation could have led to serious consequences."
Maharaja Eknathananda of the Ramakrishna Ashram confirmed to Prothom Alo that the two employees had tried to escape after stealing from the donation box. He noted that one employee was apprehended by the local community.
When asked about the security of the ashram, Maharaj Eknathananda assured there were no security concerns and added that the incident had not been reported to law enforcement.
