Three Taylor Swift Concerts in Vienna Canceled Due to Alleged Terrorist Threat

Taylor Swift performs onstage at Veltins Arena on July 17, 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Three Taylor Swift concerts in Austria have been canceled after Austrian authorities announced on Wednesday that two suspects were arrested in connection with a planned attack in the Vienna region.

Swift was scheduled to perform in Vienna from Thursday, August 8, to Saturday, August 10. Barracuda Music, the promoter for the concerts, confirmed the cancellation due to a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium. “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” Barracuda Music stated on social media.

The cancellation is also reflected on Swift’s official website.

CNN has reached out to Taylor Swift’s representatives for comment.

At a press conference, police revealed that a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, identified as a sympathizer of Islamic State, was arrested Wednesday morning in Ternitz, Lower Austria. Another arrest was made later that morning in Vienna.

Police indicated that the suspects had become radicalized online, with the 19-year-old from Lower Austria pledging allegiance to the IS leader in early July. The authorities discovered explosives and chemical substances at the suspect’s home in Ternitz, which are currently being analyzed.

Police believe the planned attack was intended for events in the Vienna area.

All tickets for the canceled concerts will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days, according to the concert promoter.
